So, I got this Datsun 4x4 for cheap from Hobbylinc: And I got this from ebay (same kind as I used on my Willys Jeeper Never Was, with HW Monster Jam front wheels swapped on) But this doesn't look right... Guess I'll break out the bone saw and do some cutting: A couple more cuts and then some stitching: Had to redo the window posts and I'll be doing some other adjustments and putty, as well as piecing together an interior and finding a driver . Just the start, but I'm liking it....

I've got some of those Monster Jam fronts but what is the chassis from ? You sure make it look easy ! That chassis and back wheels come from a Maisto friction diecast. A 1:43 body on a pull-back motor powered frame. They had some under a Marvel line back around 2003. Others were just listed as "Fresh Metal". You can find them on ebay from time to time.

I'll readily second the "you make it look easy" comment!

Did a little work on the wheels. Pulled out the inserts. I had to warm up the fronts in hot water to make them pliable enough to work with. You can see from the condition of the rear inserts that the donor car was well played with. Stripped 'em, and added some VW hubs. They sat nicely into the rears, but I had to trim off the outer ring to fit into the fronts, with a ring placed on top of that. Painted white and re-inserted. Here's a mock-up (with a shot of primer on the body - got some filling to do). Some Jackman wheels would have been nice, but I'll just imagine this guy couldn't get his hands on a set either.

I bought a little truck of eBay for the wheels.. but they're all 4 the same size... man... Yeah, you still gotta buy two donor vehicles to get the set you want, but then you have 2 sets Unless you use one of the extra wheels as a visible spare (see pic), and, then, well.....

I bought a little truck of eBay for the wheels.. but they're all 4 the same size... man... A little more info -Those HW Monster Jam trucks also have two different size hub and tires ; the first couple years they made them they were much smaller . just in case you want a bigger "rake " on the truck !

Correct. The Monster Jam set I used for the front wheels was from one of the smaller, carded version of them. They run about $3.75 at Wallymart. Attachment DeletedI exaggerated the raking of the stance by pressing and gluing down the front end of the Maisto chassis. You can see in the primered body pic that the front springs are compressed.

Some additional support on the chassis to close up the gaps under the new body: And the body got painted up: Paint is actually just primer red with a coat of Duplicolor clear Effex for the sparkle. The fender skirts are molded into the body, but kit comes with decals to address that. Of course, after applying decals, I sealed it all up with gloss coat, messing up the satin rubber look. Fixed that by taping off the skirts and spraying some Dullcoat. Voila! Got a driver. Used a Baja Humbug piece to resin cast the body. The Sculpy'd head started with a push molded face (ala Wardster in his Colonial Viper thread) using a ZZZ28 driver and additional Sculpy added for the hair and ears. The interior is the tub and dash from the kit, cut down and mounted to sheet PVC. Still working on the extra goodies.
