wider area, hmm... I might consider using paint since marking the area might will leave strands of pen marks. I would perhaps use it for chrome pieces that has spot with no chrome removed from the tree or sprue. Or perhaps use it on a smaller parts as I think you would might not notice much of pen mark ..
Some times you would end up having the vintage chrome parts which tends to have some chrome paint peeling or falling off... For that part, I would might not use the marker ... I would strip off all the chrome and repaint new one with Alclad II or some better chrome paint. This is one of the example I would probably not do with using marker. I would use it for spot or touch up work on some parts that has some disguised unpainted area or loss of chrome due to removal from a tree.

Pen marks or streaks don't seem to be a problem . I suggest you pop the cap off a pen and give it a test , it will answer your questions pretty quick !

I noticed that the 2mm pen has a textured tip while the 1mm is smooth . I've been using the 1mm with no streaks but when I tried the 2mm this morning it didn't leave a smooth finish , it smeared the chrome and left marks . I've been able to cover parts like oil pans and radiator shells successfully with the 1mm tip so I wouldn't use the larger pens unless you really have no choice .

I used the liquid chrome marker before and didn't have a problem. I tried three times to use it on the Glitter Bug windshield frame and it staid sticky. I gave up and Bare Metaled it. I thought maybe it didn't like the clear plastic. Then I went to put the marker away and dropped it..."click" it went. "OK you dummy you didn't shake it" I said to myself....DUH! It can be removed with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol.

I just picked up the 1mm size pen and can not get anything to come out of it. No amount of shaking or pressing the tip does anything. Am I missing something?

I just picked up the 1mm size pen and can not get anything to come out of it. No amount of shaking or pressing the tip does anything. Am I missing something? It's easy to check . Hold the pen with the tip up and pull the tip out (they're interchangeable between pens), then use a toothpick or similar to check the ink isn't dried out . Clean the tip thoroughly and reinstall . If everything checked okay it should work with just a couple of presses on the tip . Sometimes the tip itself can be clogged with dry paint .

Thanks for the help! After pulling off the tip and poking around it works now like a charm! Yep - it looks like chrome too. Thanks for the help guys!
