This all started when the taxi stopped working as a phone - it was one of those novelty things that were popular in the '80's and '90's and the keypad gave up the ghost. However, I liked its cartoon dimensions so hung onto it, just in case (a situation I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with!). Next to arrive were the wheels, tyres and chassis bits from a Super Taxi, they weren't an exact fit but nothing that some Dremel action couldn't cure. Of course, I still needed a driver and finally realised that Davey from the Weirdos series might work if I turned his leather jacket into a suit. On the topic of Davey, I didn't appreciate that the tooling had recently been given an upgrade which made for a much better fit and got rid of the weird "slab" teeth on the sides of his mouth and fangs at the front. I went for the earlier version and, as a result, spent a long time hacking the old teeth out, making new ones and adding a flailing tongue to the mix (I'm still not 100% sure about the tongue but it's there and not going anywhere now). Next up was the motor which came, I think, from a big scale Camaro and got some detailing and weathering to finish it off. Some scratchbuilding and parts box raiding provided the shifter (with piston), steering wheel and chute out the back. Strangely, it was the chute which convinced me to finally give the project a try because it fitted exactly into the hole where the telephone cable originally went and I really didn't want to get involved in covering up that hole and all the bodywork/ painting which would have gone with it. Hope you like it!

Thanks guys! I noticed after taking the photos that the front end has sagged, the wheels were supposed to be in the air! That's probably down to the driver being about 25% filler and putting a lot of pressure on the very small mounting points. I think it may be staying as it is!

Great Job, Harley
This all came together nicely. I like the stance, wheels down in the ft. and up in the back, gives it an even more cartoonish look.

Fantastic job converting your old phone into such a great Toon ! Using those wheels/tires and Davey as a driver (along with fixing his teeth) really brings it all together . . . Great job ! Sure am glad you found that parachute .

Glad you liked it guys and thanks for the kind words. I think that it was the longest "one day" project I've ever had as I'm guessing the phone must have died at least 20 years ago - I never claimed to be a fast worker or thinker!

WOW!!!! What a really good use of'n old phone! I love this crazy toon-rod! Much obliged! Sometimes you do have to wait for inspiration where those "just in case" parts are concerned but it can be worth the wait!

Lots of fun here, Harley. Converting a pop-culture phone is genius. I've stated before that I was always perplexed with the "open mouth, clenched molars" look that was sculpted in the Weird-Ohs kits.

Glad you liked it! As far as the teeth go I'd always assumed it was some sort of "best of both worlds" approach which ended up just looking wrong.

Don't call me "UBER" is what this says to me ! Great job bringing all that together. Cheers I don't usually go back to stuff once I think they're done but, you're quite right, this definitely needs some sort of UBER reference built into it. Maybe a lapel badge would do the trick? I'll have to give that some thought.
