A Li'l Bug

I know this is mainly a Deals Wheels forum but it's been so slow I thought I'd post something I've been playing with .
I'm still working out the details for the bumpers and wheels , and the lights and handles will be from the Revell Beetle kit . I'm thinking Hot Rod Primer with chrome or white trim , and red wheels with wide whites . Maybe some kind of aircraft markings , and I'm going to squeeze a driver in there somehow .
I've got a complete set of near to mint Snappers plus a couple dozen incompletes so I thought I'd do custom ones and display them side by side .

That bug is way cool. Too cool for just hot rod primer. When I saw it as it is in yellow I thought beach bunny,light blue,Eelco feet decals,and a nice pair of ta tas.
I'm kind of new around here but I don't think of this site as mainly Deals Wheels. I just recently found LOTS of enjoyment in the cartoon stuff. It just so happens that they are DW are more available than others cartoon kits.
I need to find one of those bug bodies...Thanks for postin'...

Thanks smokey and step2 ! I kinda like it in yellow or blue too ! Hard to decide .
It will be for the beach , the rack is for the surfboard !

Thanks Chuck but when I see what you and the others here are doing I really feel like a rookie !

The last couple of weeks I've been trying to figure out a way to put trim rings on the wheels of my Li'l Bug . Yesterday I had an idea and made a trip to Michaels where I found this stainless craft wire . After wrapping it around the wheels , some trimming and rebending , I ended up with these .



I have some caps made that will get some BMF to finish them off .

Also , a good friend sent me some bumpers from a Tamiya VW and they actually fit the curve of the body pretty good , so that problem is solved .


Two problems solved in one Day !

Love the trim rings !!! .. great idea buddy .. did I miss something here? where did you find those cool wheels ?? what a nice touch..

The wheels were made from sheet styrene . Nothing fancy and not real pretty , but I figured if nobody looks real close they'll be okay .

Those wheels are way more than OK. The're just right...I can't wait to see what you come up with for the surf board...

Excellent work ! .. these rims are just what the doctor ordered ...lol.. you did one hellofva job.. never would have thought of it myself !.. way to go outside the box my friend .. As Smokey said - they ARE a perfect fit !!

Thank you Smokey and Chuck ! I've been working on another build for the last month or so , but now that I'm getting into this one I can't wait to finish it !

Here's a sneak peek at where I'm headed with this . It's a little dark but all of the chrome trim should brighten it up !



I didn't go with black primer since I want to paint the black rubber for the running boards and the window rubber with a little chrome reveal strip .
I'm still open to painting it a bright color so I welcome any opinions .

You don't need any opinions from me man. That thing is spot on. You could paint it crap brown and it would still ooze cool... Surprise us.
