Hey guys,
Like someone mentioned about the kits and what to do with them.... this led me thinking about how we place our tools, paints, resources... books and all things to keep us juiced out with all works. Do we all keep all tools in one spot or we all place many tools all over the desk? There are times when I work on my project, I get many paints on areas around the model car as I work on them and leave them in back for a possible reuses. When I am totally done with the project, I tend to clean up all the work space and place a new brown paper over for next projects so I can keep track of the parts and things as I work.
Would like to hear all your thoughts and perhaps share some better tips in organizing all our work spaces.

think i posted this photo before but not sure..this is my paint and supply rack..it is made out of angle steel 3' long it is 3' square. it is above my supply desk..this is where i keep all of my model tools. tucked into the desk where the seat would go is an old mechanics tool chest filled with more tools.. this desk is right next to my computer desk which i use to build on,attached to the desk is a desk lamp and one of those magnify lamps...right underneath that desk is another mechanics tool chest.more tools and supplies..next to that is a file cabinet filled with spray paint and next to that a plastic set of draws one again filled with supplies..the whole thing is in the shape of an L . the desk tends gets messy in between builds...after i finish a build i clean up ,put all tools and supplies back in their appropriate places and get ready for the next build...i use an old glass shelf to build on ..easy to clean up any spills...let it dry and razor blade it off this is an old photo..think last year..i added a few more shelves ..it now has 9...i love buying new paint.i'm in the process of adding a magnetic tool holder for the most used tools..work in progress...right now the desk is a mess

I'm currently re-doing / upgrading my garage work areas, for things like household woodworking chores and the like, and bought a boatload of books about building your first shop, etc., etc. -- and got oodles of ideas from those. Most of which, though, don't apply to what we're doing ... at least not super-directly.
Short answer to the original question is: "on any surface nearby, when a project is going on" ... but "mostly in front of me, up against a back wall area, in a designated spot made for each tool, whenever it's time to get stuff looking / feeling neat and orderly".
I'll see if I can't get some pics taken, over the next few days or whatever; and upload them somewhere.

Okay , prepare to be totally unimpressed ! This is the extent of my modeling tools . Oh I have an airbrush and dozens of cans of paint , along with a Dremel and a whole garage full of tools and equipment , but this is what I regularly use when building models . Oh yeah , and it's portable and can be moved on a moments notice !!
