Hi all. Here's some pics of the brand-new Viper model kit, which just came out from Moebius Models. My copy just arrived this week; yesterday, in fact. I got my copy from CultTVman's hobby shop. I had it on pre-order for over a year, and was all excited when it arrived. I'm sure others here will be excited about it, too. (Cool brand new 'toon kit! Yay!) I couldn't help myself, and I started on assembling it right away. Fit's not bad. Really very good, in most places. More later ...

Same here . I saw this kit on CultTVman a few months ago but held off , but after seeing your pics I'm gonna have to order at least one ! One other selling point, which I just noticed I didn't mention before, is that they've left room inside the kit for those ambitious few of us who are going to think it's not complete without adding a scratch-built cockpit or interior. The window "glass" isn't clear, it's opaque -- same color as all the other plastic parts -- but it is a separate part from the fuselage. And the interior of the model itself looks like it was probably "left mostly open" on purpose. No shortage of room inside, for those who might be thinking about "lighting" and/or an interior. I suspect others will get that same impression, when they buy themselves a copy and open it up. Having said that: before I got too tempted by that, and deprived myself of the fun of just assembling it as-is, I intentionally rushed ahead. I put myself out of danger, by putting most of the kit together on the evening that it arrived. No sense making every project a big "to do". Sometimes (like this time) it's just a lot of fun to take off the shrinkwrap, and get out some glue. More pics later ...

Wow you convinced me I bought one on Amazon today! I want to try and build a cockpit for it and maybe even a scratch built pilot figure! Now for the Cylon Raider!

A great little kit! I saw a build-up and review in a past issue of Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller. Looks pretty cool when done.

A great little kit! I saw a build-up and review in a past issue of Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller. Looks pretty cool when done. Issue #36, I think it was? With Andy Pearson doing the writing on that article? Yeah, that was a good one! Far be it from me -- (ahem!?) -- to encourage other's wallets to become lighter, but if you're thinking about buying one of these kits, but can't bring yourself to build and paint it like it's supposed to be built and painted, there's always a "Scarlet Viper" ... starshipmodeler.com/other/sb_scarlet.htmShort story behind that conversion of the old Monogram kit being: a clever fellow named Steve Parady (sp?) took what was in that original / non-toon kit, and cut up the extant pieces, and made a really aggressive, fast looking model "out of the box". Not that I'd ever encourage such things. Or be wondering about them, myself ... (heehee!?) ...

That was the issue I was thinking about - got it back out again last nite and looked through it again. I like that Scarlet Viper - the conversion kit isn't too badly priced either. Really aggressive looking! I'm gonna have to pick up a couple of those deformed Vipers! Steve

Really aggressive looking! I'm gonna have to pick up a couple of those deformed Vipers! Steve Just for what it's worth, that MMI company who once made that conversion kit, has been out of business for years now. That old kit review was from their heyday, over a decade ago. I just posted it to give folks who hadn't seen the Scarlet Viper, a chance to see how someone had modified an original (1970s BSG TV series; not the 2003 TV series) Viper design, into something very cool. What I really wanted to post a link to was a web article by Steve Paraday, himself, which showed how he had converted a Monogram Viper kit by cutting it up. But I couldn't find a copy of it on the web, in the short time I looked. Apropos to nothing, I'll throw this out there, for other fans of super-deformed model kits. The mail order company, Squadron, has several model kits by Meng on sale today. Amongst the ones they're showing, on their (Squadron's) web site, were three planes and a tank -- all in what they called their "Meng Kids" series. I only mention that to say that, prior to today, I had no idea that Meng was making anything that was intentionally distorted; let alone, several such subjects. They aren't egg planes, but they're definitely toon-proportioned kits. Anyway ... I took some more photos of the Viper kit, which I'll try to get online soon. Been ridiculously busy around here, lately.

More pics! First up, the kit's parts, in a mostly-assembled state ... with a bottle of Tenax 7-R for scale. And a couple of other angles, just to get an idea of how big the innards of the fuselage are, and so on. Later on, I'll take some more pics, showing the front angles or whatever. Maybe with another kit, for another "scale shot". I haven't decided on the alternate kit to use, but it will likely be one that is fairly well known around here -- a random Deal's Wheels car body, or something like that.

Those of you who haven't already picked one of these kits up, and is trying to resist the urge to make your stash of kits even higher than it already is, is gonna hate me for posting this (very tempting!?) pic ... I mean, come on ... it pretty much fits into "Deal's Wheels" scale. Or size. Or something. How cool is that!?! Just eyeballing it a bit, the cockpit looks like it's not too bad of a fit for a Deal's Wheels driver's head in there. I can't guarantee that, mind you; I'm just glancing at a spare DW head, and the cockpit, and wondering why I only bought one of these. (But then again: I gotta discipline myself, and just do an Out Of Box build, before I go ballistic, and buy myself another one!)
