Hello Guys!!
About the time I started doing project for the contest coming up so I want to start it out and get it done as I will be doing other project for a client doing watercolor painting, I am an artist so... I try to juggle all my creativity and productivity with my time being so limited as I am raising kids
Heres one I started out with Nomad, Actually I got an original body through e bay couple of years ago and then bought a kit to use it as a donor to put all parts together and create a different version of Nomad. I try to make this close as mild custom but in a cartoon version, of course
I started off with just a body and decided that the hood gets covered with a normal appearance rather than having engine showing up so I added a sheet of plastic and putty to cover the hood holes.
So Here are the photos as I am working and is not done yet.. I decided to add bumper since the car doesnt come with so I have to look at extra parts and found a 57 chevy bumper. I sawed off the grill as they were built in and decided to saw em in half to fit. Voila, It works well! Use that as a part of example and ideas for you all. I want to share you ideas and help you create something for your own. I only reduced the size to fit and glue them together ... then add the rod in back for support and its all set, sanded to smooth out preparing for chrome painting.
Of course I have to test fit and it works. I also notice the rocket flares on the hood doesn't comes in the kit so I decided to make a pointy points with a round plastic rod and driled hole in the spot since its very tiny so I use it as a way. I glue them in and when I get the final work done with paint and all that, I will add silver paint on the tip and the "cup" of the rocket flares. It wont happen till later then.
I then decided to narrow the wheels to suit well and dig them under the body, at most. I had to cut and modify the chassis to shrink the big hefty wheels inside and show just simple rims out.. I want to keep the signature of Deals Wheels in it rather than getting different kind of wheels so I reduced the large one by one thread.. the front by two threads. Its very tough getting the small wheels back together to fit since you cut them off and the inner part where the small one fills in are not there so I had to add a couple of sprue or rods inside to help the small wheel set in and used silicone glue to hold them together. whew..
For the inner wheels, I cut the part of them to fit since the thread is cut short. So I decided to remove the cup for inside and take the tube and used the JB weld glue to stabilize and adjust trying to fit them in and get it right. So its all set dried up and ready to put together. I have to figure a way to put something in to keep the wheel inside with the tire...havent come to that part yet...
Eh whats that?! Yeah its a hat pin, I bought it from salvage store for 2 bucks and use it as a emblem for front grill since the kit doesnt have one and it will save me a lot of time working and detailing a new emblem and put em in there.. All i need to do is just punch a hole at a sheet of plastic and put em in..
as I put the sheet plastic inside to cover the ugly sides of its mouth and will put the emblem in the final stage of work.. it will be covered with black paint and perhaps add grill. I am not sure about the grill but perhaps will use simple screen and have not come to this part yet.
I decided to scratch build another part of emblems for the front hood since, again, theres not one in the kit either... I used scraps of plastic and cut to make it look like one and sanded to get a design I wanted. I am testing it to fit right now and will put it in at the final stage.
well at this moment I am at this stage, testing fit, continuing testing and testing... whew.. I am still in stage of setting up frames to put grill and bumper in and get them set up in time for me to just finish up all and just paint them up.. I also tested to see how the white wall should look and I thought of testing white paint inside the inner wheel where the wheels set. It looks so great and decided that I am going to put them up in.
Then now, since I got just the body and interor part and a cracked windshield. I bought another donor kit of the reissue of this Nomad and happen have two glass in which is a bonus! so I am going to replace that old one and put the reissue window in since its crisp new and almost spotless. I will have to buy a square plastic part to create several rods for the back door and prepare them up painting chrome soon.
This is as far as I go now.. I should start painting the body and other stuff soon and will post up more sometimes in this next few weeks
