Yes it's been reissued before but that was quite a while ago and they have gotten pretty pricey . Besides , any Deal's Wheels reissue is great news ! I ordered this last Friday night from a hobby shop in Rhode Island for $14.95 + 4.16 shipping (Tower lists it for $15.95 + 8.45) and it was delivered to me in Florida today ! So lets take a peek inside . . . Surprise !!! It's molded in RED !!! Like Wardster said in another thread there are plenty of possibilities for painting this cool plane so white plastic would have been fine with me , but it really does feel better in red . And just like all Revell kits of late the chrome is perfect ! And completely unexpected is waterslide decals instead of stickers ! I definitely like this one , as long as they're opaque enough to cover the red plastic . . . we'll see . So what do you think ?

I am personally not a big fan of red plastic period but yes , it's great to see this re-issued ! The waterside decals will be much easier to clear coat over versus the old stickers .. I always thought the old stickers were way too thick.. Always wondered why Dave decided to use stickers on the airplane instead of decals like the rest of the his car kits... Cost maybe ?

I always avoid buying kits molded in any color (especially red!) and actually like the Go-Mad and Glitter Bugs being molded in white , but for some reason this one doesn't really bother me . Weird huh ? Maybe the stickers were aimed at getting younger kids to spend money , like the TD snap kits .

I've already got one of the older (1990s) reissues in my stash, but I may decide to pick up another, just because Real Life has been kicking me in the butt, for quite some time. I haven't sat down at the bench in so long, it's pathetic. I could get out that already-started kit, but that one is on the "making it way too complicated" pile (full interior from scratch, etc.) and right now, finishing that one doesn't appeal to me. (But it might, later on. I'd rather do it up real nice, later, than half-ass it, right now.)
So unless my moods change on me, etc., etc., right now it feels like I should just take a nice old/new shrink-wrapped kit out of the box, and build and paint what's there. Might be a pretty good Slump Buster.

Might be a pretty good Slump Buster. My thoughts exactly ! I've been un-motivated to build anything for quite some time now , and this might be the "something a little different" kit to get things kickstarted ! By the way , does that Old School reissue have stickers or decals ? I have one but I've never opened it .

Slump Busters! Just for fun - no worries projects. Snap tites! Whatever it takes to beat the blues. Just as long as it keeps your face in the styrene it is good! I do a lot of those just to keep myself working on a model. One project I have been working on for six years now - I just have to do other things while slogging through the big one. Too many ideas and not enough time. So I just do lots of worry-free fun stuff to keep me in the plastic groove. Never less than six projects going at one time so I can jump from sanding to putty work to gluing to painting and keep it going. Go modeling!

I know what you mean about a slump buster....I have resumed building a tooned themed build just for that reason,to get me out of a building slump...I have been wanting to build this kit for years as a tribute to my deceased Father In Law.He was into planes, and the pilot figure in this kit looks uncannily like him.....Just not ready to do it yet.....
I have the "Old School" version of this kit which was released earlier this century....
It also has water slide decals....Here is a picture of it's contents: My original issue has stickers....I don't know if the "Funster" version of this kit had stickers, but I think it did.

In looking at the actual re-pop I have, it's not a 1990s one. (Now that I'm questioning it: does anyone have "years" for when the re-re-releases happened? How many times has it come out? Just curious.) Anyway, it felt like that long ago ... but no, turns out it was "only" 2007.
And yeah, my Old School release from 2007 has waterslide decals in it, too.
Just for what it's worth: I did prime parts of my kit, ages ago. Plasti-Kote's gray spray can paint covered the red plastic up; but some old notes I had in the kit's box said something about the red not wanting to go away, right away. I must have had to hit it with two coats or something? If I hadn't had that old note handy, I'd have thought Plasti-Kote handled it easily. But, one way or the other, it covered it up, so I won't be worried about it when I get to painting.
Any idea of how many kits Revell is going to release, this time? If memory serves, it was something like 3000 or 3500 for the 2007 re-release. (But perhaps memory does not serve, in this case?) Anyone remember the numbers we heard then?

First off,Bob, I am not trying to Hijack your thread here,I am just sharing some information about this kit.
Here is some information from Tres Wright's official Deals Wheels site about the Funster Kits (You Will need to click on the link to the left that says Revell Funsters: treswright.vervehosting.com/And here is a picture that I copied from google of the 80's Funster "Red Baron".I don't build planes, but I am going to build this "Old School" version of this toon kit some day.I'll build two of 'em... I am going to give my Mother In Law one of the builds to display in her home that my Father in law purchased with her here in Indiana. He never got a chance to live in the home....he passed away in a hospital in Missouri on his way back to Indiana from their old home in Arizona.I had given him my "Old School" kit for him to build, but he never got a chance to build it.My Mother In Law gave it back to me,and that is the one I am going to build and give back to her to display in their home.Roland is my deceased father in laws name, and he was also a trained pilot, and loved flying planes in his spare time when they originally lived here in Indiana.

Thanks for the info Todd , the more the better ! Ed Sexton told me that as far as he knows all of the reissues (including Funsters) have decals , and they only put stickers in snap-kits such as the TD Snappers and other modern snap kits aimed at younger modelers .

Whoo-hoo! My three copies already arrived, from Tower Hobbies! They don't fool around! I had thrown in the extra $5 they wanted, to get a shipping bump upwards from (free) regular mail to Priority Mail. But I was still (very happily!) surprised when the kits showed up today!
Question for the "kit historian" types in the group:
In looking the parts over, it appears that Revell may have gone out of their way to fix a minor problem that I had noticed on prior issues of this kit. The tail skid part often had (in older kits) what looked to me like evidence of a somewhat incomplete fill of that particular cavity in the mold. Sink marks, for lack of a better way to put it -- but not "ejector pin" marks. I don't have untouched old sprues to compare to, so I can't say for sure, but it looks like they may have altered the molds a bit, so that shouldn't happen any more. If so, that's pretty cool of them!

Yep , Tower is always really good as far as shipping time goes . Not always the best kit prices but this time they had a great deal ! I have an original glue-bomb but of course it's missing that part . So I checked my 'Old School' kit and there does appear to be a small dimple on both sides just above the wheel and I can see on the new part where it was but it's almost gone . Not sure exactly what it is , maybe the injection pressure causes a suction going thru the small opening to the wheel ? In any case it's a non issue on the new part !
