I grew up in Richmond CA, my father worked in San Francisco. When he took us to SF with him one of the highlights was the Emeryville mud flats art sculptures. Artist park on the side of the highway, walk out in the mudflats, gather driftwood and make sculptures. The one I liked most was the red baron. My dad told us that Snoopy was a SF Giants fan and lived in Santa Rosa with Charles Schulz (north bay). And that the Red baron was flying over the bay looking for Snoopy crossing the Bay bridge on his way to the ball game. www.sfgate.com/art/article/Tyler-James-Hoare-s-mudflat-sculptures-endure-3711398.php#photo-3200956Also found this on the artist. The other Red baron I knew as a child, hung in the entrance of Albany CA high school. I saw this one more regularly and up close. My mother was enrolled in the adult orchestra and during her performances I would sneak out to the hall ad sit and stare at it. What I remember is, a 1/4 size biplane with legs hanging down and tiny bike wheels. Turns out it was a soapbox racer by the same artist as the one over the East Bay mudflats. The High school was torn down in the late 90's and I have not been back to see if the Baron was rehung in the new building. I will try to make something like I remember from my child hood crossed with Deals awesome cartoon. This is the new repro kit I got off amazon. came all squashed, but all part on trees. I will get some primer and base coats on tonight.

That's some reeeeel purty red ! Thanks! I'm not great at painting. I use rattle cans. I live in Humboldt CA, rarely over 65 deg and very humid and the yard has an 8 mph wind all the time. I've even tried the garage, warm enough in the afternoon but the cement pad is always cool. I have had so many strange paint problems. I went out and got the biggest Rubbermade tub I could find and cut a hole for a small vent fan. I set that on a card table behind the garage (always sunny and warm and little to no wind) to heat up. yes I do warm the cans and the model part. I do the best I can with what I got, don't we all? Thanks again.

Nice ! I usually paint on a piece of cardboard placed on a trash can next to the garage . I have to move it around to avoid the sun and any breeze (if we ever have any !) then I move it inside to the A/C and set the cardboard under a ceiling fan in the kitchen to combat the high humidity . It seems to help evaporate the moisture before the paint starts to cure . Been doing this for a few years now and have gotten pretty good at it !

All I need to do different is -- start painting on card board and Dry using the air purifier on fan setting. I was close. Thanks for the info, I will try this today. I got the L'il Ron together.

I've been doing a little here and there and now realize I've done a lot, so it's update time. I mounted the Hemi to the plane and the rotary engine to the Hemi. Then I added the trumpet exhaust. A few Decals, a couple of wings and wow it's all coming together quick. On my way home from work I stopped at the thrift store. I found a little (big) green army man. I think he might have the right size legs for what I'm doing. That's it for now thanks.
