Well, after watching the action the fun from the sidelines and seeing the sweet WIPs, I figured it was time to dig out a stash Funfdecker and get to work I've already got the BMx biplane on the shelf, so I had to dig a little deeper for inspiration. I was all set to do another WWI fighter, and even had a Deal's Wheels kind of name for it... the "Albatrossity" But I got mentally sidetracked, and I knew I needed to create my thread, so here's how I'm starting: I've attached the engine cowl to create a unibody, and done some alterations to the main wing. Planning on using a set of smaller wheels from a Messaschnitzel kit. I want to keep the build as true to the Revell/Deal's concept of creating a different plane by modifying available DW pieces with a minimum of custom parts.

Well, while I appreciate the enthusiasm for the Albatrossity, as I said, I got mentally sidetracked, so that version will have to wait. Here's the mod I'm working up: The second wing has been cut and tabbed to fit into the fourth wing slots (I wanted a wider wing in that position). The horizontal tail fins have been reshaped as well, and a new vertical created. Both upper and lower wings have been squared off at the ends, and the upper wing has been reshaped and carved out to allow room for the pilot: Yup, I Sculpy'd that dastardly Dick Dastardly to pilot this one

Awesomeness, on where you're going with this! Puts a smile on my face, to see it going in that direction!
(And apologies that I didn't understand what you meant, earlier, about your having gotten side-tracked, mentally. I had thought you meant that you hadn't been able to start on it, exactly when you wanted to -- but the delays / sidetracks had passed ... and you were then jumping in, as you had originally planned. But as it turns out: I misunderstood! Oops!)

(And apologies that I didn't understand what you meant, earlier, about your having gotten side-tracked, mentally. ) No apologies necessary, Ward! I misunderstand myself most of the time as well. And, admittedly, I was being a little cryptic with the comments until I could sculpt a reasonable resemblance of the Dick head. ------- .... there are so many ways I could have stated that, all of them really wrong

Really awesome build especially on sclupty... I have a model which is an electric plane and is equipped to fly on a pole spinning around.. but was not satisfied with the pilot and the guy who hung on the side of plane.. it was made like paper cut out and set on the drivers spot. I got this kit from evil bay quite a while ago. I did not get to think of this simple idea... just build it with sculpty as a pilot instead of paper cut doll. Thanks for igniting an idea Adding the sclupty is an advantage and makes the plane pops out. Ride on !

Managed to scratch together some wing struts. Needed to angle the top wing forward to make room for Dick, but also had to make sure they are sturdy enough to stay in place. I wanted to make sure the wings are still removable for cleanup and painting, since I didn't want to deal with a mess trying to glue them properly after they were painted. The center struts are not glued in, so all I have to do is pop the tabbed bottom wings to remove the set.

A bit more for this thread. Just to push the point that sometimes you need to keep trying, here's a couple of pics of my first attempts at Dick Dastardly. The one on the right was first, way to big. The other was also a bit big, but not Dastardly enough. I was kinda working from memory after looking at some cartoon stills. After these, I found a 3D rendering online to use as reference, which helped a lot. The other odd parts: Props are from a 1:48 Spitfire, attached to a whittled down rocket-parts nosecone, with craft store dots for accent. The bomb is a wood ball with some tubing and sprue bits on top. The hand is an Aurora Frankenstein hand, with a finger removed and smoothed to create a cartoon glove hand. Original headers were reshaped, and pen bits added. MessaSchnitzel wheels were capped off with mini xmas lights (I tightened up the gap after this pic). Rear wheel is made from 2 buttons glued back-to-back, mounted on a sprue piece. Thanks for lookin!

Cool photos and nice use of different bits and pieces to finish off your plane! And a 3D rendering ? Amazing what can be found with a little hunting !
