It seems that anybody using a FREE Photobucket account can no longer post their photos on any forums (3rd party hosting) . If this is you then all of your previously posted photos are gone and have been replaced by this : I've been paying $2.99/mo. for an upgraded account for a couple of years now and I'm not affected by this new policy . I was hesitant to pay at first but since then I've had zero problems and as a plus it's ad free ! So it seems your only choice is to Pay or Switch to another hosting site . Here's some more info : www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/124268-photobucket/I also have a Fotki account that costs $24/year and I have no issues with that one either . I should say that I use a desktop and a laptop (no phone) for all my posting . I know there are other options out there for both computers and phones so let's everyone share what you're using and hopefully help those who are affected by this issue .

About a month ago Phobucket pretty much locked me out ... I could not access my photos without doing an upgrade for a fee... I sent an email and about 3 weeks later I received a link to which allowed access .. it would allow me to view but not back up my files... so I spent hours saving them in one setting then after I deleted them as not to leave behind anything for them to "sell"... I was furious !!! Just this morning I received the EXACT same email as Bob posted above ... I'm done with them!! I wouldn't go back if the offered me the moon... (off my soapbox)....lol

Hmm-mm. I haven't run into any trouble with them, yet (uh-oh, I said it), and my pics are still showing up on the board. I use a free subscription for my stuff, and I have a paid account for the company I work for. Granted, I only have about 7% of the free space used (only my kit stuff is up there). Not sure if that's a possible issue. A hack, maybe?

I can't click on your photos and go to your PB page anymore . From what I read the notices have been emailed to customers all week and some are receiving them today , probably more the next few days . I was thinking maybe a hack too since not everybody seems to be affected , but if you go to the bottom of the Photobucket page you can click on "Terms of Use" and it clearly states that a Plus account is required for 3rd party hosting . I have a Plus20 account which is no longer offered so I'm betting it will cost me more next time I renew .

Yep, spent some part of the day clicking thru other members posts/links and saw varying results. While, for the most part, the images were still there, clicking on the image only allowed viewing of that image, followed by random right arrow links to someone else's images. Kinda like the "next" arrow was messed up. However... some might see that as a plus, keeping lurkers from perusing the rest of your Photobucket account. Some, like Grumpy's links, just show me that speedometer, which is the really frustrating outcome. But, funny, different boards, like Dave's, react differently.

I know years ago Photobucket allowed you to lock certain folders/files and share others.. seems like everyone's visions for the company has muddied the waters and made things complex and very hard to navigate... I'm glad I spent the time going through all my files and saving them on my PC.. I then deleted my account with them .. really frustrating !!

I've always had all my PB folders private as I never used it for sharing only for posting on forums . I never thought of it as storage either and have always kept all my photos on my computer , so they are all backed up in case of a catastrophy ! If my account does become locked or worse , I can at least restore the boards threads in the Car-Toons Zone and Contest Central (except for members photos). The main reason I started this thread was to help any members who lose the ability to post photos . If we don't help them we may lose them as members .

Posting from Fotki is a little different than Photobucket as is all the other hosting services , so if anybody needs to do a test you can post those photos in this thread .

I really like Postimage .. I just open the program select "upload" and it gives me all the different links for which best suites the board I'm posting on.. and it's quick .. it doesn't hold files rather allows you to access your own .. it will also upload multiple pics and give links to choose from .. plus it's free ... just my 2-cents worth

Again, I guess, getting the pictures taken and send it over to lab and get prints and tape it on the computer screen and voila there it is easy step eh ? LOL

I've been weighing my options since PB dropped its bomb.
I'm still a little leery of the free hosting services (PhotoImage does look like an option... but the sketchy ads?). I don't want to set myself up for another PB incident after I do all the forum updating.
I already have a DropBucket account, but only 3.5Gb of storage for free. $8.50 a month for a terabyte (still cheaper than PB). Presently, my avatar is linked from there.
I've considered using my iCloud account (99 cents monthly for 100Gb), but have yet to figure how to link files from there (I'm seeing how to share the image, but not how to link it)
I've been successful linking images from our Amazon Photo area (you get unlimited photo space, but we already have a Prime account, anyway). I used those links to test in my "Zone" area. The tricky part there is that you need to right-click to "view image" and then copy the info from the address window.
Also looking into setting up a home server so that I'm in control of the hosting.
Such a pain, all around.

Photobucket isn't the first site to do something like this and it wouldn't surprise me if other "free" sites end up doing the same thing ! Even though my account is grandfathered in until next year I'm already moving everything to my Fotki account and I won't be renewing my subscription to PB .
