8:30am and I'm still here ! We're just north of Tampa and Irma basically went around us , lots of damage south towards Ft Meyers and to the east of us but we got lucky . Lot's of trees down but the roof is intact , no windows broken , and we have power ! In fact I heard on the radio earlier that power crews were already out working on restoring power .
Irma was supposedly a Cat 1 when it reached here but the strongest gusts were only around 70mph with sustained winds at 35-40mph , more like tropical storm numbers . It could have been a lot worse .
BOB .

Hi Bob,
Sorry to see what happened to other parts of Florida, but always glad to hear that a friend is OK.

Thank you everyone for your concern , it's much appreciated . Compared to the rest of Florida those of us in the Tampa area really did dodge the proverbial bullet . I spent the last day and a half 150 miles south near Ft Myers delivering water and other supplies , along with a portable generator and four 5 gal cans of gas to some friends in pretty bad shape . The whole area suffered severe damage and with no power expected soon and cell phone service questionable , it could be months before it's back to normal . Stores in Tampa are already restocking and gas is being delivered so I plan on making another trip this weekend . In the mean time I have to finish the clean up around here and at my son's place about 45 minutes north . . . his power is supposed to be back on by the weekend . It all seems so trivial compared to what everyone else is faced with . Thanks again . . . I'll be back soon .
