On Sat nights my father and I watch Svengoolie. He and I live 300+ miles apart but we text during and call the next day, to compare notes. This week I had to watch alone as my father was on a trip. I decided to make a quick project. I dug out some spare figures at 1/35 scale, and because I need practice in diorama making I scrounged some materials. Plywood, dry moss, reindeer moss, tan craft paint, white glue, small rock, stick and dried coffee grounds. I am only using the CIA Agent not the gunners. And an old Alien.

I took the plywood and spread glue over it, than covered that with coffee grounds and set aside to let dry while I painted the CIA figure. I some how lost the pics of the Agent paint job. When the base had dried I painted the coffee grounds tan. I added globs of glue and stuck the reindeer moss in them, I added the cut stick and tiny rock to the center to direct your eye. I painted glue along the base leaving a meandering path, sprinkled dry crumbled moss over the glue. Finally added the figures and I was almost done, Just to paint CIA on the vest; however the movie ended and my time was up. Here is the "finished" project. Let me know what you think. Thanks for checking out my alien project.

Like your mini diorama, noticed the alien's strange green footprints. Cool detail. Will have to try the coffee grounds idea some day. A quick tip for almost free ground texture for future dioramas is Tea Bags. Next time you have a cup of tea save the bag, let it dry out. Save the dry contents in a glass jar until you have enough for a project and mix with Polyfilla, water, some white glue, some dark brown acrylic craft paint. When this mix is a bit stiffer than peanut butter spread and sculpt on your base, let dry and paint later. Herbal teas have unique textures hiding in their bags. Cheers.
