Hello all.. I am doing the work on the Franatic band... going to try to complete the work. I had the opportunity to get the dome glass to cover the model and protect them from dust. I had to create a base which is quite hard to find, even in the internet. I went visiting my mom as there is a wood shop my dad left for me. He passed away a couple years ago and decided that I get all the wood shop. So I get to create a base for this dome glass. Then painted deep blue. Right now I just prime spray these models.. Going to try making the drum set for the drummer... It was inspired by a member of this forum.. itsonlyakit. I loved his work on that band so I am tempted to make one like his and add some few other things to accompany this. Hopefully I can get to finish before may 31st. I am posting just a pic of the progress and will start painting the models soon...

I'm genuinely sorry for your loss. At the same time, as a person who enjoys doing some woodworking, it makes me smile to see that you value his tools, and that you're carrying on a hobby or a tradition of craftsmanship that your father enjoyed being involved with. I think that's mega-cool! If time (and workshop lighting and such) allows, as you progress on this project, if you end up lathe-turning a drum kit, it would feel kind of extra special (at least to me, and maybe to others) to get a glimpse of the lathe you're using to turn round objects. If it's a big hassle to do that (I know that the only handy place for my lathe, right now, has no lighting any camera would like!) it's not a big deal if you skip such photos. Just a fellow woodworking hobbyist's curiosity, here!

One day when I come visit my moms place, I will snap a picture of that. This lathe is actually very old. I believed my dad had gotten this back in early 60s and also he has many power tools around the era time. All craftsman power tools made with all metals only instead of plastics today.

Thanks for that update, ModelCarFan. Appreciated!
As for "old tools": I definitely like having and using the good old stuff, too. I can picture the lathe you used because I have one (same brand, even) pretty much like you describe; but I think the one I have is more likely a 1980s model. Still has the original cutting tools with it, too; and still sees some use.
One of the coolest items I personally have, wood-working-wise, is an early 1900's Bailey brand "5-and-a-half C" model hand-plane that once belonged to the father of an elderly friend of mine. He picked it up, used, from someone else, in the 1940s; but it appears to be (from various signs the guys who are really into old tools describe) around a 1907 model. Anyway, before she passed away, she got to see that I had managed to (with LOTS of work and care!) take all of it apart; then carefully de-rusted all of the individual parts. I sharpened it, honed it, adjusted it, and so on ... and showed her that it worked, again. She was totally stoked, and kept asking me, "Do you know how old that is!?" After she passed away, I even used "her dad's old hand plane" to refine parts of the walnut box I made, that her ashes went into. Which she would have loved, I think: that her dad's tool was used for that task. I can't help but remember her every time I use that tool, so "I think I understand" as far as how it might add more, emotionally, to any project one of us worked on, to have both some old tools in usable condition, plus the good memories.
(Anyway ... sorry for the wood-working interruption, my fellow scale modeling types! Carry on!)

(Anyway ... sorry for the wood-working interruption, my fellow scale modeling types! Carry on!) Yes many of my tools were made by craftsman which is because my dad used to work for Sears for 40 years. So all of these tools in shops were sold through that store. I use most tools to add my work in model car building and enjoyed using them. Thanks for sharing. Nice to hear some old tools being upcycled or renovated and is nice when it lasts longer than the new tools today.

Hello all, Its been a very slow process.. hopefully it can be finished in time... have to scram the work to finish all ugh ! here are a couple... I use this empty pill containers and cut them off into a drum set ... Started painting the character models... gonna be a while.. so with the drum set, I painted the red color inside to reveal the color through the container and then added the nail polish glitter.. to create a retro 60s drum set... dunno if I can accomplish that but gonna try more to come...

Sorry guys, I have not come to complete the remaining parts of the model... I am experiencing long challenges in my path and when things cools down, I will return to that and hope to complete them
