The Box Art of The Super Spurt has 2 guys looking at the funny car, and this figure is inspired by the guy to the left. I have redrawn them here for my own reference. I don't have the kit, and the images on the web are small I need such a guy for my own Dave Deal Display. Being made in Tamiya Quick Type Epoxy putty. Only the second time to try sculpting with epoxy putty. 25 years ago I had no luck with epoxy and found Super Sculpey the best. Epoxy is a very different way of working. As the stuff is so sticky, everything has to be wet. You also have only about an hour, so can only do small sections at a time. But like Super Sculpey, you can smooth the surface with a brush and Isopropyl Alcohol. Have a few dental like sculpting tools, but a toothpick works well a lot of the time. Made a small core of epoxy on a toothpick, and let that set. Then built up the face. It then set too much, so we came back a few hours later and did the hair. Did 2 legs, each around a tooth pick. Once the putty sets, it is easy enough to cut and carve, to get them to match. Not so easy to do until then. I should have made a frame to support the head that connected to the legs. Tamiya putty droops if more than a small amount, so I had to support the head in the right place while the core of the body cured. The pointing hand had It’s own toothpick and core. As the putty sets it is easy to do somethings as it starts setting. I will not really know how it looks till I get some primer on it. It will probably need a bit more reworking, putty and sanding yet.

After putting Primer on it, decided his right shoulder was still wrong and the feet were too small. Redid them with more epoxy putty. I think I made him a smidgen too small. He is taller than the Dave Deal figure I have and looks in scale with that. Anyway, not going to worry about that with this second epoxy sculpt. Small nicks in redoing that were filled with Tamiya white putty. Primed again, then leave it a few days. Have to do that or I can not see the mistakes still in it. I then double sided foam taped him to an old film canister to have something to hold, then sprayed Tamiya Acrylic flat flesh on hand and face. He was then brush painted with Vallejo Model Color acrylic paints using a DIY wet pallet. Allows the paints to stay fresh for days and makes mixing shades easy too. Only learned about the wet palette and Vallejo a few months ago, and still working out how to do smooth shading. The PIT PASS is red with white letters, and that needs doing on the computer and printing, but haven’t bothered with that He still needs a coat of Acrylic Matte Varnish to protect the finish. and put on a plastic plate so he doesn't fall over easily. Don't think this sculpt is good enough to make copies of. It is a bit rough! See what happens next time.

I will second what Fletch said:
"Totally cool! He's not rough - he is just perfect. Great job."
You captured the feel of figures for that kit series. No easy feat!
EDIT -- You had mentioned this, that I meant to ask about:
> He was then brush painted with Vallejo Model Color > acrylic paints using a DIY wet pallet. Allows the paints > to stay fresh for days and makes mixing shades easy too.
> Only learned about the wet palette and Vallejo a few > months ago, and still working out how to do smooth shading.
Any chance you would want to show your "DIY wet pallet"? I know what one is, and I've made a few myself, over the years. I've used a commercially-made one, too. (One made by Privateer Press, I think it was. I know Redgrass Games has one, as well.) As you say or imply: they're great tools, for use with acrylic paints. But not everyone here knows about them. I'm always curious about how others make their own versions. There's some pretty good ideas out there, so I like to ask others about theirs. I'm asking in part so that other guys here will become more aware of them. I think other board members would like using them.
