[glow=red,2,300]MUD BUG!!![/glow] A Muddy New Project! I am modifying Revells Killer Bee to look more like a Deals Wheels "Hum Bug" Off-Road VW Buggy. The Hum Bug Kits are pretty hard to find, so I thought I might make my own VW Buggy. I will be trying some Extreme Weathering on the Mud Bug, any suggestions welcome! Most of the parts for the Mud Bug Project come from Revells Killer Bee & Porsche 911 Kits. Tires and other odd parts will be coming from the Deals Wheels Van Kit. Let's Get Started...

[glow=red,2,300]BODY MODS For MUD BUG!!![/glow] Before I started taking photos, I shortened the body about 1.5 inches: .5 inches from the doors, .5 inches from behind the doors and another .5 inches from the hood area... Here is what the Mud Bug looks like next to a stock VW...

[glow=red,2,300]MOVING FENDERS...[/glow] I cut off the front fenders so I could shorten the sides .5 inches. Then I glued them back on about .5 inches back... Next I cut out the excess plastic, in front of the Front Fenders.

[glow=red,2,300]TOP FITTING....[/glow] You can see in this photo that there is an .5 inch wide section of the roof that does not fit well. I didn't glue this section in yet... I cut the section out and carved it a little to make it fit nice and tight! I also carved the side windows out a bit...

[glow=red,2,300]MOVIN' MORE FENDERS...[/glow] I cut most of the rear fender off the body... Then I raised the top edge of the fender and glued it in place about .25 inches higher. This will give me more room for the BiG Rear Tires!

[glow=red,2,300]MAKIN' WIDE FENDERS!!![/glow] I cut 2 lengths of .25 strip plastic to fit the fenders. Then I bent the plastic, as round as I could, and glued one strip to each rear fender. Next I cut 2 lengths of 8th inch plastic strip for the front fenders and glued them in place... I also made New Wide Running Boards from strip plastic! Another View... We Have Fenders Now...

[glow=red,2,300]MUD SPOILER!!![/glow] I applied Squadron Putty to Mud Bugs rough spots and sanded it smooth with 220 grade sandpaper. Next I cut a .5 inch strip of plastic the width of the rear fenders. Then I attached the strip to the rear fenders as shown. The New Rear Spoiler also serves as a BiG Mud Flap! ...
