I want to ask you all guys wondering if you have left a couple of model kits you started but lost motivation long enough to throw them away or use it for parts instead? Want to hear your experiences... Thanks

I never throw anything away and I usually finish what I start once I’ve committed ..

Usually I grab a kit and I'm in it to the finish , but for me , any kit that I lose momentum on is one that comes molded in a color that turns me off and/or has a ton of flashing. Some later Johan kits had molds that were so worn out that there was extra plastic everywhere , and some of the kits were molded in orange or baby blue - I never even started them ; I just put the lid back on the kit. Same with an AMT 65 Galaxie kit I bought - green box art , open it up and its molded in bright red . They sat for years on my shelf, but they've all been sold now .

I don't know if it qualifies as "starting" a kit but I do have any number of boxes with additional parts in them which I thought would come in useful when building time actually does come around (i.e. photo etched stuff, nicer wheels/ tyres than the kit had etc.). Once the building is underway it takes a lot to knock me off course - although, as I am a very slow builder, it could look like a project has stalled but I'm just thinking about it, and there can be a lot of thinking involved sometimes!
