I was looking for something simple to build when I came across this . It's an old Zinger parts car that's missing the blowers , scoop , and wheelie bars . . . But I'm going to swap the body with this AMT 1/43rd Beetle , use an engine from an old Popcorn Wagon parts kit I have and use the headers from a Revell Anglia . These are the same parts Denny Johnson used when he built his original Zinger . The wheelie bars are from my Zingers parts box . Here's a size comparison , the AMT body is quite a bit larger and so is that engine . I really like those taller valve covers . After making some preliminary cuts on the body I began fitting the engine . The first test fit revealed there is no way that engine is going into the AMT body without some major surgery , I guess Denny did a lot more than just drop a motor into the body ! After messing with it a while I decided to just use the smaller Zinger engine and fit the tall valve covers and other chrome goodies to it , much easier . It's still a very tight fit but it does fits . . . just barely ! It still needs some fine tooning but it should work okay . After trimming the opening some more everything looks good ! Stay Tooned !

Next I fit the Zinger rear end and shocks to the AMT chassis . The Zinger rear wheels and tires cleaned up nicely and the fronts are from the AMT Beetle , they're larger and have some nice Torque Thrust type wheels . The headers will need to be modified to fit . It's an easy modification , just shorten the tubes and add a new flange . Headers and wheelie bars installed . Here's the finished chassis . I'll touch up the chrome with Molotow . This is moving right along . . . on to the paint !

I wanted to keep the paint simple but add a little pizzazz to it at the same time . A white base was first then it was taped and sprayed with some orange . . . The yellow w/black pinstripes are decals I printed . I used a second set when masking the body for the orange paint . A couple small details and it will be ready for some final photos !
