Another “RACE?” Kit build

I received a call from the one and only Von Franco in California.. Franco painted with Roth , Newt and the others .. he wanted a “RACE” kit which is a great example of one of Roth’s tee-shirts they often painted .. so I busted out the molds and started casting parts . I was given permission by Gerry Pitre’s family to remaster the kit by building completely new molds which took months .. beings we both know Franco , Tim Nolan and I are doing a joint build on this . Tim is doing the monster figure and I’m doing the car . So it begins !!

Sanding and fitting .. even though I remastered the molds the actual parts used for mold making were made in the early 90’s when Gerry was doing “garage pours” .. so sanding and fitting is a must .. also drilling and pinning with stainless wire wherever possible .. more progress shots-

In addition to months of mold making the time
Spent casting alone with the process I use can take anywhere from an hour and up for each part depending on the complexity of the part .. it’s very rewarding when you finally see everything coming together after all the work put in..

Very cool that you and Tim are collaborating on this one , and some excellent photos showing your casting and assembly process ! I'm definitely saving them all for future reference .

I think that's the first time I've ever seen one of those being built (well, reconstructed to be strictly accurate!) and it looks like it's in pretty good hands.

Thanks Harley .. these are quite challenging to say the least .. I imagine several either ended up at a Goodwill or Salvation Army . Story has it only 30 We’re made originally.. here’s one I did and another called “Scumbag Express” ..

Neato! I did manage to get hold of the Henley Custom's Little Jewel/ Rat Fink resin kit but the postage stung so much I never tried to find a Race? kit as well.

Larry Henley sold me his “Race?” Kit about 3 years ago .. I used to talk to him on occasion . He’s moving into a new shop doing some 1:1 car stuff and said he was going to be doing another resin project .. he didn’t mention what the subject matter was ..

More progress .. final car assembly underway .. chrome is all air brushed Molotow .. I switched to aluminum rod for the headlight mounts .. much more sturdy than thin resin extensions ..
