I have wondered about members who build model cars... how much do they favor cartoon cars comparing to show rods, regular rods, race cars, and stuff. Do you all feel that cartoon models gives you some better creativity ideas? Do you feel that the cartoon model cars do benefit your collections?
I do ... I have always love model cars and love watching cartoons on tv. Even to this day I still stop and take a 30 minute break from daily chores , flipping my remote control tv and watch some of my favorite shows.
Especially when i get much stimulation with colors in cartoon, It does bring me to some ideas of what colors we could use on model cars rather than traditional colors made on real ones.
I am just bringing up the discussion and hearing all their thoughts.

Well,, let me chime in.. ;D .. I like Car-toon stuff as nice change of pace .. especially after building for over 45 years as guy needs a differnt direction every now and then .. when I build "cars" I try and build them as close as I can to box art with a few added accessories... customs I have a tendency to stretch out there a little further.. but Car-toons let me pull the plug and just have fun! .. I think car-toon builds allow you to think outside the box a little but also try to keep things a little on the "real" side too ... it doesn't matter what the subject matter is .. I think I use all my past experiences when it comes to building any subject.. sheesh .. does any of this make sense lol ...

When I first attempted to build a Cartoon car my thinking was that it would be a simple thing to glue some stuff together, paint it and call it a day....NOT!
I love to build them because they are just plain fun.....however, I keep finding myself adding more and more detail to each build. So much for the quick, easy, down and dirty approach. Anyway, it has gotten to the point where even my cartoon builds take as long or longer to build as my "realistic" cars. My wife thinks I have a mental issue......can't seem to overlook things like dip sticks, wiring etc. even if they don't really show on the finished model.

I started building kits when I was about nine years old, and I built all sorts of kits , from show cars, ships, tanks, planes and buildings for my train set . I wa in the Model of the Month club, so you never knew what kit you were going to get. For a little while I wasn't building anything, until someone asked me to build a Nascar kit for them in the early eighties, and I've been going strong building cars ever since. For me, cartoon or realistic- If it catches my eye and I feel like building it, I will. Lately I've been having fun restoring old buildups , and I'm now putting together buildings for my sons train set. I have all sorts of different automotive kits, basically it just depends on my mood .

Always a soft spot for cartoon kits, but we're pretty hard to get. Now with they're being made available, they are my number one go too's . A lot of model car building got to be doggie dog (correct firing order, right size wiring, hose etc.) started building for fun as a kid and now get that same sense of enjoyment as an adult . I don't want to think I'm real old, to give you an idea, we only had 4 tv stations and a round picture tube.

I do like all the work done, and appreciate all of all the imagination and detailing put in to kits in this and various other boards. I hope to have a model posted soon, it will have a little detailing, but nothing intense. It's been slow, due to health problems. As a wise man told me, when it is no longer fun, it is no longer a hobby.......that was my dad when we stated building kits together, age 7.

Four TV stations !? In north Texas we had one ! But in the evenings we could get a station out of Lawton , Oklahoma . Our phone was on a party line and we had a windmill to pump water to the house ! Of course I was only 5 and didn't know any different . Some of my first models were the Weirdos , I loved them and I was actually allowed to have some paint for the first time to add some color to them ! I also learned how NOT to make a mess which was necessary if I was to continue building models . Now 50 + years later I have all of the reissued Weirdos and Silly Surfers in a closet waiting for the day I've built or sold the rest of my stash . They will be my last hurrah !

Even though I've been building model-cars since about 1970 I had never built a "cartoon-rod" until the day I built a 1/25 scale VW inspired by the Lesney 1/64 scale Flying Bug, the one with a german sticking his chromed helmet through the roof. That's what started my interest in this kind of models!
Next in line was the Lesney die Cast Austin Mini with a british pilot sticking his head out and I besed my 1/24 Build on a Tamiya Mini body that I got for free from a buddy of mine.
Then I built my C-C-Claudius Gasser from an old 1/25 Hanomag, all fiction and entirely made up by myself and by the time I was really "hooked" ! So I found an old Monogram "Thunder Bug" that I rebuilt and made some changes to. Now I'm building a really crazy cartoon-rod, based upon a friction drive, plastic toy-VW and I hopr to finish it some time next year !
Just like many of You I just love the fact that I can go crazy building cartoon-rods as there are really no limitations. It doesn't have to be "driveable" or in any way realistic, just "wild'n crazy"!

Ideas throwing in does helps a lot and bringing creativity to share with one.. does benefits many ideas and improves talents in each individuals. I thought this would be a wonderful way to throw in some help and support to one other builders. There are many tools and sources that benefits many kits you build.... but cartoon build is a bit challenging because no many aftermarket parts are all available and we had to custom make one.
You try to make your build more unique and sometimes satisfaction is never enough. You had to think other ideas to add to it.. I find it more fun and artistic... you get end up being the title of all conversation among people.. which makes you feel good. Don't you all get that sometimes ?
