I want my own Lil Herbie more than ever now. Does anyone have one or a junk kit or something similar I can make one from? What kit would be the best starting point?

A Bug Bomb or BugOut.. Both are vintage Dave Deal kits... In my opinion the amount of work you would have to do would be more than an intermediate scratch builder would care to tackle... The tires, wheels, bumpers, body etc. are all unique to the Lil' Herbie kit... Bite the bullet magnum and buy a builder .. Save yourself the grief buddy! You'll be glad you did...

I can't afford the prices they are going for.
What makes you think i'm an "intermediate" scratchbuilder? ;D

You can check out for Funster kit with bug in it.. and is quite hard finding one. Usually are expensive to own. I had two of lil herbies but not in kit, just in shambles so I traded this with other builder a year ago. It would be nice if I still have extra and would be happy to sell one.. but I only have one. I compared with the one along with FUNsters kit.. and they are exactly matched.. so only thing you need is just tires and wheels to make it about the exact same as Lil Herbie. The kit you should be able to look out for or find... Here is the picture I took for you to see...  compare these two.. white one is an original Lil Herbie, the yellow one is of Funster ones...    Hope this helps and gives you a better idea. Good luck looking for one.. |

Thank you. I had one as a kid, around the time "Herbie rides again" was out. I only ever saw that one at a Woolworth's in Massilon I think. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of the car and have wanted to replace it for all these years. I'll look for the Funster bug and see if I can snag one or maybe someone here will have one. The tires and wheels don't bother me much. It doesn't have to be perfect...just close enough for government work.  |

If you've never had the kit then all the subtle differences is what MAKES it Herbie .. the tires say "Herbie" and so on .. I may have a few of the "53" decals and stripes somewhere around here . |

Those are really cool. With the upcoming re-issue of "Glitter Bug" hopefully some others might see re-issue. I'll be looking for this kit. Thank you for the king offer, but I have plenty decals and have been making my own for some time. I don't need a perfect match, but I would probably want "Herbie" on the tires and plate. Wheels don't concern me either but if they start to BUG me, I can follow what was done in another thread here. Thanks mucho for the info.

I'm sure I have a repop Lil Herbie decal left .When I restored mine ,the only guy that I could find who made decals would only make them if you bought a whole sheet of the decals, so I
ended up with a full page of them. I sold most, but I may have one left in the parts box !
