Okay, I'm going to try the ice and see how thin it is before I fall through. I got this invite to join and I think it's a great idea. Scale models should go to the cornfield. So, here's my first model for you guys. It's been so long since I built it, I can't remember everything I did, but I will try.
This is a Revell Li'l Herbie VW kit which is a very rare kit. It was a knock off of the Deal's Wheels Funster Bug, which was a knock off of the Deal's Wheels Bug Bomb back in 1971. Dave Deal concept and design (God rest his soul) was one of the coolest in my opinion. I found aftermarket decals on Ebay that were better than the originals. I also had the "Herbie" license plates made for the build. Though you can't see it, I removed the dash from a Revell VW convertible kit and installed it in Herbie. The rear end had the Bug Bomb cut out for the megaphone exhaust. I filled that in and used a couple of velocity stacks for tail pipes. I may replace those with some 1/20 scale pipes later. I used Future Floor Wax to attach the windshield and headlight lenses. The final thing I scratch build was the "Pope's Nose" license plate light housing instead of using the stock part. I think it looks more period appropriate. I also made fender welts for the fenders. If you've ever painted a VW, you know what a pain they are, but they have to be there. The body was painted a slightly off white color and the wheels were painted to match. It was a fun build and I hope you enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed building it. That means I enjoyed it twice as much as you. lol... Just kidding. I love the old VW's. I've owned about 10 and at one time was a painter for the local VW dealer, but that was in 1969!!
