It's been a very long couple of weeks down on the farm, my apologies for not being around much. BUT !! i have made some progress on the digger build . i painted the car body a very nice orange pearl and applied 4 or 5 coats of clear, it looked great, but i HATED and i mean HATED IT!!! it just did not give me the right vibe ,if that makes ant sense at all. i put it out on the porch to take some photos of the paint and i just stood there and said this just does not fit this build....SOOO into the baggie of oven cleaner it went for a do over. i decided it needed to be a bit more sinister looking and choose flat black the frame... i tired painting it silver but again it did not look very convincing so i tried a new technique i picked up over at the model car forum. it's regular ole tin foil and metal leaf adhesive( 5.99 hobby lobby) you see i absolutely hate BMF with a passion. tried more time than i care to mention and i either tear the stuff applying it or burnishing it. for every piece i successfully applied there were at least 3 that ended up scrap. this method works great!!! so much easier for my poor old hand to use and its just thick enough to be a bit forgiving.i used cheap dollar store foil for a buck. i did the same to the gas tank tried my hand at making decals for the first time... simple clip art copied from the inter web and testors decal paper(40% off coupon hobby lobby) i choose the same photo twice...here is the decal sheet i made up next i started the engine shaved the top off and took the top off a another engine to give it a bit more muscle foiled the valve covers i wanted to add some side pipes and came up with these but i am not happy with them at all... they look alright alone but once you put them on the engine they look like a a drunk spider is dancing...not one angle was the same, not one..i tried using this pipe bending spring , you put the pipe in and bend..simple enough except you have a heck of a time getting it back out...a real struggle so of coarse you end up bending the pipe to get the spring off the dang thing...think i;m going to go with straight pipes and call it a day.. i may also wire the engine ,but i haven't been motivated enough to drill out the distributor cap and wire it all. thanks for looking any and all comments and or critisims are always welcomed

Criticisms? Are you nuts? That thing is cool. Straight "Weed Burner" headers are just fine too...

Here is a Nutty Mad Digger that I painted as kid in the 60's. I often thought of recreatin' it with the model but, haven't done it yet. Seein' your build put that thought back in my head. After the current build I think that I'll do Digger. Thanks Bubba Attachment Deleted

Bubbajoe, I like those crazy exhaust headers. If it's not a secret, what is on the ends of the headers?

not much progress this week and i had a major setback...i decided to spray some candy apple on the helmet...first coat came out great, 2nd coat not so much..i over sprayed just a bit and left a drip on one side...sigh..sitting in a zip back with oven cleaner as we speak. the helmet before ..made some skull decals and after the candy apple disaster..good thing i still have time to do it over..we live and learn made another sheet of decals..this time some irises ..who knew it was this easy???!!! the shifter was a bit puny for my liking so i beefed it up... made an eye ball knob for it finished it today,, sitting next to the box stock shifter
