I've got a couple of resin models I'm thinking of working on and one of them really needs some tire smoke billowing off the rear tires . I've done the thing with cotton , which works okay on most models , but since this is a resin hot rod I'd like it to look like part of the model . One day I was looking at a ceramic Rat Fink Rod I have and came up with an idea and here are my first attempts .
Let me know what you think good or bad , and any suggestions .
If you've tried any other methods please share them and post your photos here !
Here's the plan . I'm using part of an Aspirin bottle for the tire .
I've used this stuff a couple of times over the years and was never really impressed with it , it never seemed to expand like the label claims . Well I guess squirting it in cracks you just can't see it expand , because it really does . . . alot !
This is one of my first attempts , it looked good at first but 10 minutes later it had really swelled up !
I repeated the process half a dozen times , each time trying to put less of the foam around the tire . It sounds easy but it's not , definitely takes some practice . Here's a couple more attempts .
I finally got a couple that are halfway what I was looking for . This probably wouldn't work on a smaller model , my samples are almost too small , but on a larger scale it has possibilities .
