the title pretty much says it all...I am out of room..i have no more space to display my finished models..sigh..i have one small display case where i put my (in my eyes anyways) my best builds. its an old glass fronted stereo cabinet. the rest are strewn around my office /wife's nightmare/ toy room i have even started to take some of my earlier builds and recycle them for parts. nothing wrong with them just out of room and making room for another build...i have resorted to stacking them one onto of another in plastic cases which looks like crap...so what do you gents do with your completed projects? i would just love to know what you guys do when your out of room?

I'm in the same boat as you . I have room for about 14 models in my cabinet , and each time I add one I squeeze them a little closer together . Now I have 22 in there and each time I add a new one I take one out and box it up or part it out , which still bugs me but until I find more room I don't have much choice . I've probably got 3 dozen models boxed up waiting for a new space ! I've been looking for another cabinet but haven't had any luck yet , so I'll just keep recycling the models I have on display .

Count me in... I have bought a few of Danbury Mint and put some in the cabinet... and then it started creeping in more models causing " space for sale" to disappear. OH well and I had a few of model that got broken from dropping a glass shelf onto another shelf... whew glad it didn't break the shelf but the few models were in shambles. I have this wonderful excuses to say well its gone back in recycle bin. LOL There are times I want to keep some models and some I decided to sell it off on e bay knowing that not all models gets to be very sought after collectibles. Just a very few I would keep. so I try to keep them thin in my curio cabinets and keeping only one or two cabinets in a room. I even have 8 kits of 1/8 and 1/16 scale kits and knowing that one car will consume a whole space so I kept them in box in the storage ... thinking it might be an investment that will never be built. Oh well.. I guess that is the curse of being a hobbyist with such a lot of love for many type of cars you want to have it all. Should I call it model car builders syndrome... LOL

Well Bubbajoe, you asked so here goes, just about all the models I build are large scale (1/8th to 1/6th)......also a number of 1/12th and 1/16th. I've converted a spare bedroom to my work space. Wall to wall workbenches, computer, drafting table, tools and storage. It's a total disaster (no pics until I get it cleaned up a little). My wife won't even go in there. It's gotten to the point where I had to put a divider out on the screen room. My larger power tools etc. are out there. (I live in Florida so the weather usually doesn't prevent me from working outside). As far as what I do with the models goes.....when I tire of dusting or showing them they get disassembled and used for parts, rebuilt or sold at shows. The rest are given to those friends and family members that want them. The grand kids have a ball with them although they don't survive long. I get my styrene fix from the actual building not so much from displaying or collecting them. Perhaps I need therapy?

THANKS!!!! can't tell you how much better i feel... i was really starting to feel bad about getting rid of old builds...i to build for the pure joy of building and improving my skills. its nice to display them for awhile but to put them all on display is getting to be a chore onto itself... i took over one of my kids bedrooms a few years back..empty nesters.. and its rather small about 10X12 and its crammed full ..2 desks.a recliner. desk chair. file cabinet.small book case full of books. and my lone display case..the walls are full as well.7 shelves hang form the walls... not only do i make models but i collect old die cast toys , lead figures, souvenir buildings, old signs and old car emblems all have a spot in the room...my wife begs me to sell off the stuff in my closet ..BUT I JUST CAN"T!!! bin after bin of toys not on display not to mention a growing stash of models yet to be built. At least i now know i'm not alone .. grandpa...my wife definitely thinks i need therapy...i tell her sweetly...this is my therapy

Like I said, we all have model car builders syndrome I takes one model car to sell and get rid... I have two of every kinds of car and I restricted myself to only 1950s and only a very few outside that. It takes a lot of discipline. OH well I have this syndrome and yes I do need help, should I say... Model car anonymous? LOL

Over the years I've built, collected, and displayed just about every scale above 1/32nd ... Hot rods, figures, mostly.... Many of my " one off" builds stay in the case... Many of my smaller scale builds below 8th scale are placed in the wall case until such time as I've expired my need to keep,it... So off to the swap meet , model show it goes !! What sells feeds my fix for more styrene and the cycle continues... I DO have a few special builds that remain in my collection which may have been built by a friend living or passed... A lot of my unbuilt inventory turns over quite, frequently but I find myself with an over abundance of styrene that I'll never build if I live to be 150.... But that's a good thing right ??
