The New Year will be here before we know it so it's time to start making some plans . We have a pretty good idea for our next contest but there are a few little details to get worked out first .
The biggest detail , and one that you all can help with , is the time frame for the contest . I'd like to have it start the first week of January but how long should it run ? Very few of us have enough free time to sit down and build something in 6-8 weeks . So how much is enough time for everybody to get a model built ? Three months ? Four months ? More ?
If you plan on entering let us know what you think . And if you have any questions or suggestions we'd like to hear those too !

Already? I am sure every one of us are ready to do some model car building ... yet our minds are still on Christmas list so making all the anticipations with the plans is often unsure. So for now I would probably say 2 months is at the best. Perhaps setting some criteria and creating an idea to make us take up more challenging task. I would probably thrown in an example.. we are to chose a model kit that we all probably can find in store or already have in stock at home... let s say Gomad. we can start all the challenges using only that model and let all of us create ideas doing that. maybe a glitter bug for a deep challenge. Just a penny of thought. Have a happy holidays.

Some of us had real life kick our butts, way too often and/or at just the wrong times, during the running of the last two contests ... and are, therefore, probably "smarting" a bit more than some others, from that "wanted in, but just couldn't get it done" experience ... and thus perhaps "want in" even more, on whatever happens next. (Which might just be more of real life, kicking our butts ... but one can hope?!)
My knee-jerk feeling is that I like what ModelCarFan said: a "challenge" rather than a full-on "contest" might be a good thing. It might narrow the "come up with the coolest thing ever" thing, enough to just focus on having fun and getting something done. Picking a single model -- (or single series?) -- or maybe a "shallow" pool of them, and sticking with a certain time period, sounds like a fun way to deal with the time periods between full-on "contests" without getting too far away from "picking a model that looks like fun, and making sure it stays fun" sorta thing.
Dumb question: have any new re-releases come out? Weren't there a list of them, some time back, that one of the larger modeling companies wanted input about? If any of those are due out soon, that would make them great choices for a challenge.
Or what about some of the models already out, that don't generally get as much love as the "classic" kits we all grew up with? Like (for example) the tooned car series that Moebius released a couple of kits in, over the last few years -- "Eye Gone Wild" and/or "Stoned Hoods and Crooks". Unrealized potential, there, might be a good thing in terms of having others see that potential, once someone does them up nicely???
Just throwing some ideas out there!

Just some dumb additions to my previous "dumb thoughts" ...
If others want something smaller than a full-on contest, between "real" contests, why not a painting challenge? Sort of a way to "take a random cartoon kit, and use some special painting technique on it -- and show the results to the group?" I mean, we already have a section on the board for painting tips and tricks. Between contests, why not encourage posting new stuff to that part of the boards?
Just (as before) a thought!
Not trying to "nix" any future contests, or anything like that! Just thinking that if/when others aren't up for a full-on contest, maybe some sort of "group challenge" would get some building and painting done, and some stuff posted?

I figure the early part of the year works best as most of you still have a few months of Winter left , once Spring hits there are always other chores and obligations that take priority .
2 - Two months go by pretty quickly ! The normal length for contests is three months and I wouldn't want to make it any shorter than that .
3 - As far as having a specific model or type of model . . . that's part of the plan !

Our first contest was held from Jan 1st thru April 1st , by keeping this one the same hopefully it will become an "Annual" contest that everybody can plan for !
2 - This is the "Full-on" contest , other smaller ones will still be held as long as we can afford to do so .
3 - I don't know of any Toon re-issues in the works .
4 - The Moebius and Polar Lights snap kits have a lot of potential , but just like the Tom Daniel snap kits most people overlook them . I think they would make a great subject for a contest !

I've got an ample supply of various toon kits . .. Many vintage to boot .. I'm ready to settle in and grab one off the shelf and have some fun as time permits with progress shots and all ... It's tough sometimes to have time for building but I block a little time here/there TO build . If I didn't I just as well sell out and work my life away (and that's not happening) ... Lol..I do not see a need to rush out and buy the latest reissue unless you're running low in your toon-stash pile... Bob and I thought it would be fun to stir the bee hive and have a little fun here in the process ... I'm all in !

Might i suggest we have this contest for bragging rights only with no prizes..... I had a nice conversation with bob recently about this subject and i know first hand the cost of putting a contest together and what it involves . prizes, shipping. ect, ect. , you 2 put together a hell of a contest and run a great sight.. but i for one am more than happy to just build something for the pure fun of it and for bragging rights if i happen to be lucky enough.
