Since I haven't really built anything for many months I'm going for a simple out of box build , maybe a few little mods and definitely a fancy paint job and some decals . Maybe I can finish this one !!! I'll be starting with one of the new reissues I picked up recently .

For a while now I've used Future to seal bodies molded with colored plastic , but not wanting to mess with my airbrush I reverted back to good old Hillbilly Chrome . It works just fine to prevent any bleed thru of the red plastic . This is important as part of the finished paint will be white . After that dried for about half an hour I sprayed some gray primer . This will eventually be covered with white primer before final paint . I also glued together the fuselage , engine , and the Baron's head . After I smooth the seams they'll get the chrome treatment too .

Is that the same old Testors chrome spray? It's been ages since I've built anything or bought any paint. Wasn't sure they were still making that, and I love it for simulating polished aluminum on models.

I usually hate Rustoleum paints (especially primers) because they spray like crap , but this line still has the old style nozzle and sprays just fine .

I know what you mean , I've been learning to wear latex gloves during assembly which really helps a lot ! Actually it won't be all white , here's the colors I'm using . And I've got a set of Blue Max funny car decals that are finally going to be used !

About got the fuselage finished , just a bit more sanding to do . After looking at some photos of WWI planes I decided to do away with the spokes and make solid wheels . This should give you some idea what they'll look like .

Like that wheel idea. Your colors and decals will set this apart from the rest of the RED barons.

I sprayed a little paint . Blue on the top . . . . . . and white on the bottom ! I think I'm going to skip the Hemi and go with something like this !

Simple and red is good , as long as it gets you sniffin' some plastic again ! Yeah, and basic black doesn't look too bad, either! (See for instance the four-winged build-up that Tres Wright did, back in 2007!) treswright.vervehosting.com/Pages/gallery15.htmlFor those who didn't already know about them: here's several additional / inspirational builds of the WWI aircraft from the Deal Wheels series of tooned vehicular models. (And there's also a bunch of build-ups of the various cars and vans, and the WWII aircraft by Big Deal, too!) NIce!! The solid wheels are a beautiful touch! Thanks ! No progress this week , hoping to get back to it this weekend . I did spend about 10 minutes and fashioned a little stand by inserting a piece of tubing into the bottom and using a clear rod for the stand .
