First I must say that this is Ward's idea, I just like it so much I too want one. Super Deformed "Egg" Colonial Viper in a Deal's wheels style. Second I need to thank modelcarfan for the Deal's head. Thank you Brian! I will be following the Wardster's blueprints. Pre-assembly was easy enough. very cool kit. To me the hardest part of this change is cutting the canopy glass. I cut a foam block to fit the inside of the canopy. I hoped that it would reinforce the canopy while I drilled pilot holes. It did kind of work, I snapped the the starboard side canopy base. It was a clean snap and an easy fix. A few hours of sanding and it looks great. Next hard bit is finding glass to fit. I like to buy cookies at the grocery store; they come in a large clear plastic box. Perfect for window glass and I get to eat alot of cookies. First I took pattern paper and copied the inside of the canopy. I use leftover Pattern paper from my wife paper sewing patterns. It's alot like tissue paper but stronger and you can write on it. So thats where I stand at the moment, glass cutting and fitting. Here is a pic. for fun I've stacked the parts on top of each other, so it looks all put together Again A big thanks to Wardster and Modelcarfan. Thank you both!Jonathan

I used card stock to block out the inside. It's a bit "off" looking out of the ship but fits like a glove. I did need to cut a support from inside to make room, the pilots nose is long. You know what they say about a long nose?...Big boogers! I don't have a whole big stash of spare parts but I do have the bench from the Revell Hydro Hemi speed boat. The plastic was brittle and wanted to snap when i was cutting. I ended up with a nifty little pilots seat, at least I'm happy with it for now.

A while ago my father and brother had a long discussion on this very subject. My father was building a WWII Navy PB4Y-2B fitted with pontoons as a memorial to my mothers father. Grandpa was the flight navigator on a PB4Y-2B. He told us kids they were flying animals to islands that had been bombed to help the repopulation. OK cool kids story, not true, but cool story and maybe they did once. But I had my doubts about a pontoon plane carrying livestock. Not just a Pontoon plane, a bomber fitted with extra fire power. I did look up what I could of where that plane was in the Pacific. And I think it's better he never told us. The model my father was working on had a detailed Navigation pit. But the interior once put inside was to large and would not allow the 2 part fuselage to come together. My Brother said "scrap it, no one will see it in the belly of the plane". My father said "He would know it was missing" meaning that's not ok. I believe there was a lot of sanding done to make it fit. So yes no one will know, but me, and all of you. And the end product will look cool. The model PB4Y-2B sits on top of a piano in my parents living room. I know Grandpa would get a hoot out of it.

Looking good! I'm running the same "issue" with my X-VWing, after the pilot is in, the interior is not visible at all...

I cannot tell from the picture of your model but you can make an helmet for it, and a little bit of body with seatbelts, like I did.

I have been trying but the helmets I make come out looking more like an Egyptian pharaoh's headdress with a chin strap. I now have a new idea for a head piece. I do think your right the shoulders would add alot to the pilot. Thanks

It's looking like a fun figure-modifying project, already! Good job, sir!
You had said that your prior efforts resulted in something like an "Egyptian pharaoh's headdress with a chin strap". I got a kick out of that verbal description. (But no fair being too hard on yourself, please! Takes the fun out of this stuff!) You made that sound like a bad thing, but note that if you Google something like "colonial viper pilot helmet" and look at the resulting images, what you'll find, from the 1970s "Battlestar Galactica" show, anyway, looks pretty much like it was designed by Ancient Egyptians, anyway. And the later series went and did a helmet re-design, etc. Lots of wiggle room ... and as Big Deal himself might have said, it's all Cartoon Land, anyway. Let the "accuracy" concerns float off into the ether, and gently re-attach themselves to some other model. Continue having fun with it, would be my advice!

Yes, yes the 70's is what I was looking at when sculpting. It's not that I didn't like it as much as the results never fit in the allotted space. this made me have to rethink the size of the pit area. I did lower and push it back, looks a lot better. But I still disliked the look of the pilot in the pit. You might know that i "attack" problems, as a result I have been told I work fast, too fast. Out of respect to you, your idea and your build, I am reining in the horses on this one. Just wanted to be 100% sure on all fronts before moving forward on this. True the Pharaoh's head will be awesome an another build. Commencing with the fun, Sir.

> I have been told I work fast, too fast. > Out of respect to you, your idea and > your build, I am reining in the horses > on this one. I'm not sure how much credit I want to take for popping a Deal's Wheels head into that cool kit's cockpit. Around here, we see tons of coolness by tons of other artistic types of people. We inspire one another, at times. I think that's one thing I like the most, about this place: a sense of artistic camaraderie. I don't want others to rein themselves in -- I'd much rather have them kick my butt: thus inspiring me more!
