Sorry for the poor pics. I took this with my first ever digital camera which was junk by today's standards. I built this for a very good friend I got to know too late in life Pete Millar of Drag Cartoons fame. Pete was a really interesting and funny guy with a different "life" story for everyday of his life it seemed. I miss him a lot. I built this for him as a favor in return for giving me one of my most prized collection. An unfinished drawing of what would eventually become the cover for his last ever comic book which he re-did as a computer drawing instead. In the 1960's, Pete ran a Competition Coupe he called the Chicken Coupe. You have probably seen pics of it in older magazines. It was also in the movie Bikini Beach with Franky and Annette. Pete's humor always came thru in his drawings. He would pencil sketch everything he wanted in the pic, then color over everything. It doesn't come thru very good in this photo, but all of the scribbling at the bottom was a different drag racing person in real life which he was known for and must have taken hours upon hours to complete. Here is the computerized version which was used for the cover. I much prefer the old style hand drawing myself, but I guess Pete was under a deadline to get the book out....

Hi Ira, I started off with a really early Mouse ad with this exact character which is Speed Shift years before he became the model version. Then I used two Crash Bandicoot kits for the mouse. Elongated & reshaped the legs and made the shoes fit inside the pants. The inside of the mouth and teeth were removed and new inside mouth, tongue, teeth and nose scratch built. The eyebrows and ears were also removed with new scratch built mouse ears made. His spine was built up to match the Groovy Grader engine with pipes from the Drag Hag. Scratch built the tail and whiskers along with the shifter and shoe laces. His hands are from Drag Nut. Tattoo on his arm. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedThe rear end and wheels and tires are an old 1/8 scale Big T. He stands 10" tall. Old squished Rat Fink has all new left arm & hand with some guts (from the visible man) and tongue, flattened foot and tail and belly with blood squirts.

"...Fast Asleep at the Traffic Light"
Monday morning, while stopped for a downtown traffic light, Bob, the school teacher, again temporarily lapses out of reality thereby escaping to a much more exciting Walter Mitty existence where his alter ego, Hot Rob from Hell, acts out deeply-hidden fantasies, some of which are fueled by frustrations of his daily job and the endless rut in which he seems to be caught.Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Few features of "...Fast asleep at the traffic light"
Hot Rob from Hell dream balloon: Huge rear tires ripping and tearingAttachment Deleted through body of hot rod. Monster engine with upside down heads, make-believe intake manifold with mutant Weber carbs, plug wires too long on one side with "Danger High Voltage" sign and not all wires go where they belong - two are tied together. Headers are not symmetrical with "Beware of Blast" warnings. Tension pulley made from Coke can with unnecessary fan which is chopping thru leaking radiator. Water hoses bypass radiator. No oil lines. Front end sags under heavy weight. Eyeball headlights and skull taillights. Rear differential is a pumpkin. Rusted frame with old chain holding some parts. Vise-grips to open door. Hot Rob and eight-ball shifter bursting through recently chopped Model A with mirrored windows. Hot Rob has "mom" tattoo, pierced ear and studded wrist band with scraped knuckles. His mouth was done up in the colors of a hamburger - lettuce, meat & bun. The rest is decorated with acne. Scratch-built Xmas tree. Near side is correct with NHRA, Pre-stage & Stage. Far side has Okay, Get Ready, Get Set, GO.
VW street scene: Scratch-built bike rack, briefcase and traffic light. Complete base - street, building & dream balloon made of wood. Veedub slightly weathered with rock chips on front and a little rust. Also tried to make it look repainted with painted-over emblems & rubber. Cassette tape and box of French fries on front seat. Back seat covered with blanket with tennis racket & briefcase.
