Ok ,I'll get this party started !

This is an original Glitter Bug , formally a major gluebomb . The driver and windshield took hours to cut off of the body , I then had to wetsand and polish the glass out. The headlights are resin copies by Chuck D. The exhuast was in several pieces so that took a while; the tip is from the end of a paint brush . I wan't able to keep the body in its original color as I had to sand all the glued fingerprints off ; paint is Testors Jade over a silver base. I painted the driver to match the art on the side of the box . All that work seems kind of futile now that the reissues are out, but at the time iit was my only option !

I built this for tthe Deal's Wheels contest on the C.C . After seeing some of Ira's builds I thought I'd give it a try. It turns out its harder than it looks ! I started with a Ford ragtop from the junkbox . I maesured and cut a section out of the center ,and then trimmed it until the body propotions looked right (to me anyway) . I opened the wheel opening up to fit the larger tires and flared the fenders using some plastic rod and filler.I had to raise the drivers floor so the driver would fit. I wanted the build to look like a custom car, but not to much that it would lose the 49's distinctive looks , so I cut a front pan for the front and used some custom bumperettes for the rear. The car is painted Testors custom laquer gold over a silver base. The rear end is from a Stingaree kit. The lake pipes, antennas are custom bits from parts bin, the mouldings and hingers were Baremetal foil. The dice was an Ebay find; I drilled them out and hung them on the mirror. Hotwheels Bob made the license plates for me -4D9 FRD

Even with re-issues it's still more gratifying to rebuild the old stuff !
Great job on the Glitter Bug , the detailing with a little paint really brings it to life .   And I've seen the '49 before , I'd love to jump in and drive it away !         Pretty cool .

Heres my "Endsville Eddie" . Like my other Weird-os, I painted it in bright enamel colors to give it a vintage 1960s look. The only changes I made was weathering the skull shifter and givng him an "Easy Rider" helmet .I did that with red pinstripes and some silver star glitter left over from my daughters birthday ,sprinkled on when the blue paint was wet and then clearcoated . The anchor chain was left over from an old boat kit I built in the '70s . This was a fun kit to build

Hey Don,
These are representations of three different styles of build, A restoration, (yes, the re releases are great, especially for us who never had a chance to get them before) but restoring kits is in a league of it's own. Saving these from the crusher(or dumpster) is the plastic version of animal rescue. You should be proud of that.

Then Scratch building, this is so good to get the juices flowing on what never was, but could have been. There are two types of model builders, those that have been influenced by Ira, and those that don't realize they were influenced by Ira. (haha)

And (near) box stock builds, These Weird-ohs are always great to see built, like Chuck says, as much as they are the same, each one is different.

Good job Don, I think you got this off to a good start of the type of stuff they are looking for in this contest.
Now get that kitchen done and get back to what's really important in life.....model building....(haha)
