All of you that won Glitter Bugs in the "2015 Car-Toons Contest" have a little surprise headed your way ! Our fellow member Wardster has cast a bunch of his Turrets and generously donated them to the Car-Toons prize pool . We intended to include them in the prize packages that were mailed back in April , but we all know how things don't always go as planned .
I'm happy to say that they are now all in the mail and you should be receiving them in a few days !
Kudos to Wardster for the time and effort involved in making these cool parts for us !!
Here's a shot of them all lined up after being cast .

Very cool, thank you Wardster! I was going to ask you about one of those. Awesomeness! Good to hear! And "you're welcome," Pat and Brizio! Glad to be able to do it. And glad people who love to build stuff, seem excited about getting a copy! Kinda cool, being able to keep it secret this long. (TooOld's idea, to keep it secret till it was actually in the mails ... and a good one!) But now that they're heading towards other builders ... the fun begins! Even just being able to generate some excitement about the idea of a Glitterbug-to-Swine-Hunt conversion sounds like fun, in itself. The original Swine Hunt kit was always one of my favorites amongst the intentionally "wacky" kits, back in the day. I'm sure a number of others here agree it was an "instant classic" amongst the Deal's Wheels kits. I've long felt that the idea of sticking a turret on a cartoon dune buggy kit was sheer, over-the-top, funny-kit genius! As far as detailing and what not goes: the 14 gray-colored turrets, as seen in the image above, are actually ready-to-go, as-is. (The others are spoken for, and I'll work on them a bit before I ship them out -- but they're the closest thing that photo to shows, to a "fresh, right out of the mold" type of resin casting.) What I mean about the gray ones is this: one timing hold-up on how long it took me to get these out to the contest's winners was that I have already cut off any pour spouts or sprues on all of those original 14 turrets. There were some air bubbles, in places. I filled them. I also did any necessary de-flashing; I sanded any bits that didn't belong, or needed sanding; and so on. All of which takes some time, when you're doing it a dozen-plus times! I even made a decent start on cutting the view-slits on each of the turret's sides. (But those slots could always be re-shaped or finished off more than I've done. I kind of got them started, but left "how big they are" to each individual's builder's personal tastes.) I re-textured the areas where the pour spouts once were: to hide any defects in those areas. I even primed the turrets (using Plasti-Kote's gray spray-can primer; but applied via an airbrush) before I shipped the first 14 turrets to Bob / TooOld. Anyway ... you get the idea. Judging by Fletch's reaction when he saw his early "test the waters" copies, and how Bob reacted to seeing 'em ... whoo-hoo!! The idea of all the extra work is partly that this is just a cool site to hang out on; and partly a matter of hating it when I get resin parts or whatever that take a long time to "fix" before they're ready to use. As Fletch already proved: these castings are pretty much ready-to-go, right when they show up in the mails. (I won't be able to do things that labor intensive, all of the time! But it felt right for this project, and I'm glad I put in that extra bit of effort on these castings.) You contest winner types will see what I mean when the castings arrive in the mail, but my scratch-built turrets were intentionally not a perfect copy of the original turret -- (I had gone more for a WWII Russian tank style or feeling, than for a WWII German tank feeling) -- and I hope only Swine Hunt purists are gonna be upset that I'd done that, rather than trying to exactly duplicate what Revell had done in the 1970s. The big bonus there, is that if Revell ever re-releases the Swine Hunt kit, in all of it's original glory and with its original parts, then anyone building these "Russian-ized" versions will still have something somewhat unique. Anyway, I'll shut up for now ... other than to say I'm stoked that "Fletch" from these forums already used one of these turrets to make himself a Swine Hunt clone. He beat all of us -- (including me!) -- to the punch, in terms of finishing his version up first ... car-toons.proboards.com/thread/831/swine-hunt-ver-ws-34... but hopefully there will soon be more 'toon tanks ready to "get into the war" in one fashion or the other!
